What Guests Say
BenBelgium · May 2026"In early May 2026, I travelled from Belgium to Tornado Alley for a one-week storm-chasing trip with Downburst Daan. It became an experience I will never forget. From the very first day, there was an enthusiastic atmosphere, and it immediately became clear how much knowledge and passion Daan has for extreme weather.
During the chase days, we not only witnessed a spectacular supercell with impressive lightning activity and thunderstorm structures — we also came very close to intercepting an EF-3 tornado. This took place in a week that also included its challenges: less favourable forecasts and the long distances covered as storm potential shifted from day to day.
Daan provided extensive explanations about meteorology, forecasting, and safety, which made the experience much more than simply 'chasing tornadoes.' Everything was carefully prepared at all times, even when decisions had to be made at very short notice. Safety always remained the top priority.
The absolute highlight was the moment a tornado formed in our vicinity — something you would normally only see in documentaries. The long drives, conversations on the road, and shared anticipation while waiting for storm development all became part of the charm of this journey.
What I will remember most is the combination of professionalism and passion. The week felt adventurous, but never reckless. For anyone with an interest in weather, photography, or adventure, this is a truly unique experience that I can highly recommend. I will definitely come back."
Important Notice
Severe weather is not guaranteed. Tours may involve long drives, waiting periods, and forecast busts. These realities are part of authentic storm chasing and are communicated transparently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any storm-chasing experience?
None at all. Tours are designed for everyone from absolute novices to seasoned severe-weather enthusiasts — if you're curious about storms, you're welcome.
Is storm chasing with you safe?
Safety is the top priority on every chase. This is run as a professional field operation, not a guaranteed thrill ride: every decision is based on real-time data, road networks, storm evolution, and constant risk management. We position for a clear view and a safe escape route — never reckless.
Will we definitely see a tornado?
No — and anyone who promises one isn't being honest. Severe weather is unpredictable and not guaranteed. Tours can involve long drives, waiting, and the occasional forecast bust; that's part of authentic chasing. If we never reach a tornado-warned storm during your tour, you receive a discount.
What's included, and what isn't?
Included: lodging, breakfast, all ground transportation, and airport pickup & drop-off, plus full guiding throughout. Not included: meals other than breakfast, and your airfare.
How many people come on each tour?
Just 1 to 4 guests — kept deliberately small for flexibility, comfort, direct access to your guide, and a genuinely personal experience. No crowded vans.
How long are the tours, and when do they run?
You choose anywhere from 7 to 21 days. The peak U.S. severe-weather season is April, May and June, so those weeks book up well in advance.
How do I get there?
Fly into a Tornado Alley airport of your choice and I'll pick you up — airport pickup and drop-off are included, so you can fly or drive in from wherever suits you.
What language are the tours in?
Tours are guided in both English and Dutch, so you're comfortable whichever you prefer.
What should I bring, and do I need to be fit?
No special fitness is required, but expect long days and a lot of driving. Bring comfortable clothing and any camera gear you want to use, and let me know about any health, mobility, or dietary needs in advance so I can accommodate them where possible.
How do deposits and cancellations work?
An initial deposit secures your dates, followed by a structured payment schedule. Each stage becomes non-refundable as the tour approaches, with the final payment non-refundable from one week before departure — so travel insurance is strongly recommended. The complete booking and cancellation terms are set out in the contract you receive and confirm before you commit, so there are no surprises.
